Microsoft has recently released Service Pack 3 (SP3) for its popular Windows XP operating system. This service pack includes the updates and patches that were released for Windows XP over the years. In this article, there are some solution which is related to windows xp service pack 3 installation error.








Before I Begin


Before I get started, I need to keep the lawyers happy by telling you that modifying the Windows registry can be dangerous. Incorrectly modifying the registry can destroy Windows and / or your applications. I therefore strongly recommend that you perform a full system backup prior to attempting any of the techniques that I am about to show you.
Now that I’ve gotten the standard disclaimer out of the way, there is one more thing that I need to tell you before I get started. The registry tweaks that I am about to show you are intended for machines that are running Windows XP. You can apply the tweaks to individual machines directly, or you can apply modifications as a part of a login script. Also, some of the keys that I am going to be talking about may not exist by default. If you want to use a key that does not exist, you will have to create it. You should also keep in mind that Windows Update’s behavior can be controlled by a group policy, and that if a group policy is in effect, it can cause portions of the registry to be overwritten after you have made changes.

Note: When any of the errors discussed below occur, you may find the following error is added to the installation log file of the service pack usually located at C:\Windows\svcpack.log:
“8007F0F4 - STATUS_PREREQUISITE_FAILED”

Error Message 1: "This Service Pack requires the machine to be on AC Power before setup starts."

Cause of the Error
======================
This error message is usually displayed on laptops if you are trying to install SP3 while running the system on batteries. The error is displayed to ask you to switch to AC power and minimize the chances of update failure if the battery power fails.

Solution
==============
To resolve this issue, ensure that your PC is connected to AC power before you start the SP3 installation.  
Error Message 2: "Service Pack 3 Setup has been canceled because Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP is not compatible with this version of Windows. Before you can continue, you must:
1) Uninstall Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit
2) (Optional) Install Windows SteadyState, the newer version of Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit.

Cause of the Error
=====================
“Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP” is not compatible with Windows XP SP3. So, if the toolkit is already there, Windows XP SP3 installation will generate the above error.

Solution:
===========
To resolve this issue, first uninstall Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit from your computer. To do this, you may either use the Windows Add or Remove Programs (appwiz.cpl) utility or a third-party program uninstaller tool, such as Perfect Uninstaller.

In case you want to retain the Shared Computer toolkit feature, you may download and install Windows SteadyState on the system.

Error Message 3: "Service Pack 3 Setup has been canceled because Windows XP SP3 cannot be installed over RDP 6.0 MUI PACK (Update for Windows XP (KB925877)). Before you can continue, you must Uninstall KB925877."

Cause of the Error
===================
The error is displayed if you have Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) for the Remote Desktop Connection 6.0, which is installed with Windows XP KB925877 update on your XP computer.

Solution
======================
To resolve this issue, uninstall the KB925877 update. To do this, open the Add or Remove Programs window, and then select the Show Updates checkbox. Select Update for Windows XP (KB925877), and then click the Remove button.


Error Message 4: "Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 cannot be applied to Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs (WinFLP). A unique SP3 update package for WinFLP will be made available at download.microsoft.com."

Cause of the Error

You are attempting to install on Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs (WinFLP), which is not supported by Windows XP SP3.

Error Message 5: "Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 cannot be applied to Windows Embedded for Point of Service (WEPOS). A unique SP3 update package for WEPOS will be made available at download.microsoft.com."


Cause of the Error

=========================
You are attempting to install on Embedded for Point of Service (WEPOS), which is not supported by Windows XP SP3.

Solution for Errors 4 and 5:
==============================
Download WinFLP and WEPOS compatible Windows XP SP3 and then install it on your computer.

Error Message: “Setup cannot continue because one or more prerequisites required to install Service Pack 3 failed. For More details check the Log File Drive_Letter:\windows\svcpack.log.”

Cause of the Error
==========================
You may encounter this error message if you are trying to install Windows XP SP3 on Windows XP Media Center Edition or over Windows XP Media Center Edition 2003.

You may not encounter this error on Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004.

Solution
==================
To resolve this issue, you first need to install Windows XP SP2 on your Windows XP Media Center Edition or over Windows XP Media Center Edition 2003 computer. After you are done, install Windows XP SP3.
