Dell™ PC Restore by Symantec (for Microsoft Windows XP) restore your computer software to the original state in which it was shipped to you from Dell, including:

Microsoft® Windows®
Dell-provided utilities and software
Drivers for all hardware included in the original shipment
All default settings
The Dell restore programs do NOT restore any changes made after you first received the computer, including:

Any programs you installed
Any Windows or other software updates you installed
Your user data (such as files, folders, e-mails, and photos)
Drivers for hardware added after you first received your system from Dell
E-mail and Internet settings (including favorites and bookmarks
Note: The Dell restore programs only work on pre-imaged hard drives shipped from Dell and are not options when trying to reinstall on a new or blank hard drive.

CAUTION: You might need to backup all relevant data for the customer. Ask the customer to backup and the data which he/she might need. Performing Recovery will cause customer to loose all the data and programs installed.

Except for the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, remove all external peripherals including:

USB flash drive or other external Hard Drive
Any other external devices (e.g., USB-attached devices)
VERY IMPORTANT: Restoring the original factory image erases ALL existing data. This includes files, folders, programs, drivers, E-mails, photos. Before performing a PC Restore, back up all personal files. If you do not back up your personal files, the data will be lost.

Turn on the computer.
When the Dell splash screen appears during the computer startup process, press and hold and then press . Then, release both keys at the same time.
NOTE: Some systems like Inspiron Mini 9 (910) do not support System Restore as they do not have nor any substitute.
In the Dell PC Restore by Symantec window, click Restore. Alternatively, press to highlight Restore, and then press .
When a warning message appears stating that all data will be lost, click Confirm, or press to highlight Confirm and then press .

The Progress window will appear. Once the restore process starts, Dell PC Restore by Symantec usually takes about 8 to 10 minutes to finish.

When the restore process is complete, the following message will appear:
The system recovery process was successful.
Click Finish or press to highlight Finish and then press to restart the computer.

The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received.
Steps to perform if Restore Program fails

You will have to reinstall the operating system manually if:

PC Restore does not restore your operating system to its original condition.
Pressing + fails to display the PC Restore tool
