unable to scan Windows Update 0x800700B6 windows xp winxp

Error 0x8024D00C Unable to scan for Windows Update
Error: Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page.


Cause: Not Applicable


Solution: Stop the Automatic Updates service and the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) service. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type services.msc , and then click OK.

In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

In the Automatic Updates Properties dialog box, click the General tab, click Stop, and then click OK.

In the list of services, right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

In the Background Intelligent Transfer Service Properties dialog box, click the General tab, click Stop, and then click OK.


Unregister the Wuweb.dll file and the Iuctl.dll file. To do this, follow these steps.

Note You may not find the Iuctl.dll file on a Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer.

Click Start, click Run, type cmd , and then click OK.

At the command prompt, type cd %windir%\system32 , and then press ENTER.
Note The %Windir% folder is the folder where you installed Microsoft Windows
Type the following commands, and then press ENTER after each command:

regsvr32 /u wuweb.dll
regsvr32 /u iuctl.dll
Type exit , and then press ENTER to close the Command Prompt window

Rename the following files:

Wuweb.dll

Iuctl.dll

Iuctl.dll


Iuengine.dll

To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\system32 , and then click OK.
Right-click Wuweb.dll, and then click Rename.

Type wuweb.old , and then press ENTER.
Note Ignore any Windows File Protection prompts that you may receive.

Right-click Iuctl.dll, and then click Rename.

Type iuctl.old , and then press ENTER.
Note Ignore any Windows File Protection prompts that you may receive.

Right-click Iuengine.dll, and then click Rename.

Type iuengine.old , and then press ENTER.
Note Ignore any Windows File Protection prompts that you may receiv


Start the Automatic Updates service and the BITS service. To do this, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type services.msc , and then click OK.

In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

In the Automatic Updates Properties dialog box, click the General tab, click Start, and then click OK.

In the list of services, right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

In the Background Intelligent Transfer Service Properties dialog box, click the General tab, click Start, and then click OK.

Restart the Computer.
