Could not find Acrobat External Windows Handler.

The best soultion of the day.

Cause: If the 'ewh32.api' file is missing or corrupt, an error message will occur when trying to view an Adobe PDF file in a Web browser. Reinstall Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.

Solution: Check the Acrobat 'Plug-ins' folder to see if the file 'ewh32.api' is missing. If so, uninstall and then reinstall Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader. Start your Web browser and navigate to the Web page containing the PDF file you want to view in your Web browser. Click on the link to the PDF file.

Details: 1) Click on the Windows 'Start' button.
2) Click on 'My Computer'.
3) Navigate to the Adobe Acrobat 'Plug-ins' folder. Typically, the default folder can be located in 'Program Files/Adobe/Acrobat (version number)/Acrobat/Plug_ins' or 'Program Files/Adobe/Acrobat (version number)/Reader/Plug_ins'.
4) Verify that the file 'ewh32.api' is missing from the 'Plug-ins' folder.
NOTE: If the file is in the folder, it may be corrupt. Continue with the steps below.
5) Close all applications that are currently running.
6) Click on the Windows 'Start' button.
7) Click 'Control Panel'.
8) Click 'Add or Remove Programs'.
9) Select 'Adobe Acrobat' or 'Adobe Acrobat Reader' from the list of currently installed programs.
10) Click 'Remove'. Follow all onscreen instructions.
11) Reinstall Adobe Acrobat 5.0. Follow all onscreen instructions.
12) Start your Web browser, and navigate to the Web page containing the PDF file you want to view.
13) Click on the link to the PDF file to open it in your Web browser.
NOTE: If the same error message appears or you still cannot view a PDF file in your Web browser, try the following workaround: Start Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader first, then open the PDF file in your Web browser.

This articale applies for :6.0, 7.0, 9.0, Applies To: Adobe Acrobat 5.0
